St James' Lane c.1859

St. James' Lane was widened later in the 19th Century and renamed St. James' Street. Markeaton Brook flows  underground beneath this area. Until 1836 St Peter's Bridge  provided a crossing point over the Brook - that year both the bridge and the water course were covered over.
