The Cemetery Gates - Even On Sunny Days This Spot Can Be Unnaturally Cold. |
The lake at Elvaston has a number of picturesque artificial 'ruins' - added by its owners to lend an air of antiquity to the landscape - and a brick boathouse tucked away between the trees in what is now an area set aside as a nature reserve. It is supposed to be haunted by the shades of former residents who still wish to enjoy the lake and its surrounding woodlands long after their deaths. |

The Haunted Boathouse |
The Boathouse has been colonised by bats. When the building was restructured (just in time to save it from collapse), the construction firm entrusted with the task was given a tight deadline because the winged tenants were known to punctually return to their favourite hibernation spot every year. To the amazement of the workmen, the bats arrived at exactly the hour stipulated by the timetable. |
